Fire
05:51
|
|||
Weird scenes inside the Gold Star Studios
improvising a Zen symphony to man
but the shadow of some bad god I ate at Arrowhead
split my mind back into two again
Yesterday's child is now father of the man
despite resentment of the puppets
stolen tapes... cold cocaine... bleeding out my veins
and vibrations...vibrations...who's that speaking in my head?
speaking in my head?
Burn... burn great country burn
fire to soothe my pain
wind to whip my hunger
consumed by flames on a tidal wave
Wild scenes inside my head at the Gold Star Studios
wife with unborn child all so much kindling
at my command Laurel Canyon sparks ablaze
dead wood Los Angeles brighter still against the night
Burn... burn great country burn
fire to soothe my pain
wind to whip my hunger
consumed by flames on a tidal wave
My ego died a thousand times
I saw the universe and understood it all
mankind's small place behind the sun and to what end
but the devil came in the name of love and burned it all
he burned it all
he burned it all
he burned it all

The Ghost of Abraham
05:30
|
|||
The first thing I remember,
looking out the rear window at my father,
getting smaller and smaller as the family car pulled away
so I kept my head down,
through these seasons of darkness,
silent with a smile, but ready to pack up and leave again
"We're giving peace a chance"
said the man on the radio
give up and fade away or walk a path a thousand years long
Driving down a brand new highway,
through an ancient land,
haunted by the ghost of Abraham.
We were blinded by power
in the land of the cedars
victory's a fading vision --- a stillborn dream
we started snaking down that hill
crossing into no man's land
in a masquerade --- as a bloody dragon...our shield and bastion
the last one to survive,
has only dead men for friends,
this wolf keeps walking --- oblivious to the pain
Stepping on past tank tracks,
through a foreign land
haunted by the ghost of Abraham
But now she stands there crying, waving goodbye
cursing god on her lips
wasting my time with this hate and despair
when yesterday's history and tomorrow's more of the same

Four Good Years
06:47
|
|||
Mother raised up a warrior
as she passed him her disease
a life to be lived in the shadow
and the knowledge of what will be
caught within dark infirmary halls
that's where he softly spoke to me
Drops of coffee from a spoon
wild tales of an old friend
the days linger and then fade
but father's faith never wavered
I'm sad to inform you all
things played out as expected
"I had four good years -
when I walked among the living
Before I was chained to this hospital bed
Before these tubes were all that fed
my dying body"
but they could not poison his soul
There's no miracle here, no glorious end
the memory of you stands still
your paintings left unfinished
I still picture you standing
standing one step from the black abyss
"I had four good years -
when I walked among the living
Before I was chained to this hospital bed
Before these tubes were all that fed
my dying body"
but they could not poison his soul
Calm as the desert
with no cure to hold you back

City In the Dusk
07:48
|
|||
Near the town of Jericho
after the sun sets behind the mountains
I've passed a city in the dusk
a splendor like no other
of glittering jewels and diamonds in the dust
on a basin of stone and sand
only to see her fade away again
sinking into the desert in a flash flood
a lost treasure of the nomads
Don't let it dazzle you
or play tricks on your mind
the beautiful mirage
stand facing the sun
in the first rays of light
let the shadows fall behind
She rises out of the sandstorms
queen of the desert
long crow black waving hair
commands her troops without a word
her eyes illuminates them all
I found myself riding that storm
Should you bear witness
at the grand dance of the birds of prey
their wild colors at the fading day
a divine tapestry for you the dead
Are you still waiting for
flashing signs and visions?
are you still biting at the
hand that feeds you?
driven to extremes
with a hunger that never ends
out on the highway
let the chips fall where they may
Birds circle, roar above
shadows gather unto a night
the land of the prophets
a body without a head
shackled to their master's hands
a promise of demise
soldiers passing by
hyenas in their thousands wait
laughing like a mad men
This land has bled so many lives
you're born to live and not to die!
desperately waiting for the night
fall embraced by the crimson skies
Are you still waiting for
flashing signs and visions?
are you still biting at the
hand that frees you?
driven to extremes
with a beauty that never ends
out on the highway

Things Fall Apart
05:49
|
|||
In broad daylight
I try and fail to hide
in between the silences
within the spaces left
by time
But not for lack of sentences
oh, the bitter futility of words
nothing left here but stinging cold
yet the anger... the anger still burns
Holding on just to hold on
we're like, broken clocks twice a day
stand up for your right to make two wrongs
things fall apart anyway
I admit some surprise
I never thought it would be this easy
to burn my own house down
burn it down to the ground
but in the dying embers of life
I found myself there healing
the walls came tumbling down
as I found my path to freedom
Holding on just to hold on
we're like broken clocks twice a day
stand up for your right to make two wrongs
things fall apart anyway

Americaj
08:18
|
|||
And when she gets to the promised land,
over that golden gate
She will sell her body and join her brothers there,
on the sidewalk
In a California death knell,
spare change and cigarettes
Red pills, white lines, blue wine,
Pacific standard sunrise
And out there in the valley,
her slaves are picking grapes
And putting up our temples,
to multi colored gods
Americaj
By the river of Los Angeles,
there’s an ancient ritual going on
There’s a pyramid of skulls,
with dollar signs for eyes
An Aztec murder,
updated for our times
All too human,
just like human sacrifice
And tent cities arise,
fair trade, coffee chain
While the mansions on the coast,
keep reaching for the sky
reaching for the sky
Americaj,
the beautiful
Veiled and bound,
Americaj,
so graceful,
stoned and dead
Stop using your children
as cash machines
burying them alive under siege and servitude
the wave of humanity
awaits out on the streets
picnicking on the graves of the fallen
there’s a strange fire
on the western shore
where oil’s running low
trash, rags and silicone
shaky grounds for homes
bathing in nicotine
and breeding by telephone
but there’s still time
to turn this ship around
listen!
Americaj,
the beautiful
Veiled and bound,
Americaj,
majesty,
stoned and dead
Thomas Paine lies in a shallow grave
while liberty is flooded over
by icebergs and blood diamonds
and the smell of hope burning
a self styled poet carves epithets
into the arms of a throne
in Americaj
the Beautiful
in Americaj
Americaj

The Burning
04:54
|
|||
A greater man could stand in the fire and not be burned.
I have not the strength to turn away,
from old hatreds of a thousand years,
and the brief satisfaction of a well placed blade.
Feels like darkness in my veins,
can't see the sky today
Damn Eve that wicked witch with her hair pulled back makes me bow down low
curse her and her kind as I'm struck down fast and I gasp and I slip below
Damn neighbors spread lies and deceit I'm a fool to heed what I have
not seen for...
Damn myself with my pride intact I'm a dead man now what have I got to show
Feels like darkness in my veins
can't see the sky today
Ancient laws ... just marks hewed in stone
ransom paid ... and left unknown
carried asunder by pride ... adrift at sea
now the lawless time begins
Tongues of fire are laughing laughing
rivers of flame are burning burning
pyres of blood glowing brighter and brighter
on our island of ashes frozen cold
For the failure to forgive
our own misgiven sins
will our island of ashes be laid low
Tongues of fire are laughing laughing
rivers of flame are burning burning
pyres of blood glowing brighter and brighter
on our island of ashes frozen cold

Behind The Sun Rehovot, Israel
Behind the Sun play the heavy music of the northern desert, a storm of sound cutting the wasteland to reveal ancient spirits
and modern madness.
Behind the Sun was formed on the edges of Israel’s vast Negev desert. The music and lyrics on their debut album speak of their personal trials and tribulations living in this heavenly but harsh land.
